2009 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Family hauler gets more safety features. introductionthe dodge grand caravan is still fresh from a complete redesign for 2008, and for 2009 the grand caravan gets more safety features.  the grand caravan is all about transporting people comfortably and safely, while keeping them entertained. Its designers focused on interior creature comforts, and they succeeded. As part of that focus, dodge has made its stow 'n go seating standard. Stow 'n go has bins behind the first row that can be used to fold the second-row seats into the floor. It's more about comfort and safety than carlike precision. Electronic stability control is standard, and the grand caravan has performed well in government crash tests. The handling is a bit cumbersome, not surprising given the grand caravan's size. It doesn't go around corners as well as the honda odyssey and nissan quest do. It leans in hard turns, so drivers will have to be careful not to upset whatever activities are going on in back.  three v6 engines are available, including a 4. 0-liter 250-horsepower v6 added for 2008. We found the base 3. 3-liter engine can struggle with freeway on-ramps. The 3. 8-liter engine is acceptable, though we prefer the 4. 0-liter v6 introduced for 2008. The top engines from toyota, nissan and honda offer more power and response.  but a minivan isn't about speed and handling. The grand caravan's unique cargo and entertainment features give it a competitive advantage in the minivan class. Seating is two-two-three, with stow 'n go (second- and third-row seats fold flat, into the floor) standard. Options exclusive to the se start with quick order package 24g 1770) with tri-zone manual climate controls (including rear controls), tachometer, trip computer, outside-temperature indicator, compass, and alloy wheels. The tri-zone manual climate controls are offered separately in a climate group 995). The popular equipment group 1495) adds power-adjustable pedals, power-sliding rear doors, and a power rear liftgate. Uconnect tunes 725) comes with a 30-gigabyte hard-drive radio, six-disc cd changer, two additional speakers, and a usb connection. An entertainment group 1395) includes a rear dvd entertainment system with a single nine-inch screen and sirius satellite radio. A roof rack is also offered 250).  grand caravan sxt 27,825) uses a 197-hp 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 with a six-speed transaxle. Sxt equipment includes three-zone manual climate control with rear-seat controls, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar adjustment, power-adjustable pedals, power sliding rear doors, sirius satellite radio, trip computer, compass, outside-temperature indicator, universal garage door opener, illuminated visor mirrors, 115-volt power outlet, fog lights, roof rack, overhead storage, pinpoint led lighting, and alloy wheels. The 250-hp 4. 0-liter v6 630) is optional. Other sxt options include quick order package 28l 2365) with leather upholstery, heated first and second-row seats, power passenger seat, power rear liftgate, vehicle information center, additional interior lights, rechargeable/removable flashlight, bright bodyside moldings, sport suspension, and p225/65r17 tires. The premium group 1995) includes tri-zone automatic climate controls (including rear controls), third-row power-folding seat, nine-speaker 506-watt infinity audio system, uconnect phone wireless link, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rain-sensing wipers. The security group 1425) adds rear-obstacle detection, dodge's new rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems, uconnect phone, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic headlights. The family value group 695) includes a removable center console, sunshades for second and third row, and remote engine starting. The sxt entertainment group 2 2200) comes with a rear dvd entertainment system with two nine-inch rear screens, a six-disc cd changer, usb connection, uconnect tunes, and a rearview camera. Uconnect tunes 675) is available as a standalone option. Uconnect gps 1300) includes uconnect tunes, plus a navigation system with voice activation and real-time traffic, rearview camera, six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, uconnect phone, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. With rear dvd entertainment, customers can order sirius backseat tv 495). Front side airbags are not available. Optional safety features include a rearview camera, rear obstacle detection, and the new rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems. A description of the overall shape of this newest generation of the dodge grand caravan wouldn't sound too much different from a description of the 1982 model. People don't buy minivans so others will look and say, 'that's the new minivan. Some styling!'  the dodge grand caravan is boxy, but it's attractive in an suv kind of way. The hood is less fairly flat, and it bears character lines. The grille is very upright, making the dodge crosshair grille look like that of a dodge truck, especially in chrome. The short wheelbase caravan was dropped with the 2008 redesign. All of them are now grand.  the grand caravan is the second largest minivan on the market, smaller than only the nissan quest. These comparisons are relatively unimportant, however, because the other minivans are within an inch or two of the grand caravan in both wheelbase and overall length. The grand caravan is a big vehicle, with a 202. 5-inch overall length and a 121. 2-inch wheelbase. interiorthe dodge grand caravan leads the minivan field when it comes to interior convenience, capability and versatility. Chrysler has been working to give its minivans a competitive advantage in these areas for a long time, and they haven't been afraid to be creative.  the interior materials are lackluster, however. Hollow hard plastic dominates the dash and door panels. Everything fits together well, but it doesn't make for a luxurious look and feel. We quite liked the look and feel. The black vinyl trim and satin aluminum-look plastic didn't look rich, but nor was it ugly. We like this feature.  we had six 10-year-old soccer players test the grand caravan's video player during a 90-minute drive to the game, and they liked it. The dvd was a snap to play, which is important because some of them, even those in much more expensive vehicles, are not easy to use. The screen drops down from the ceiling and the viewing begins. It comes with wireless headphones. It has jacks to plug in video game systems. It's available with sirius backseat tv, which comes with three kid-friendly channels: disney channel, cartoon network, and nickelodeon. When the dvd screen is deployed, the driver loses.

2001 dodge ram 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A heavy-duty full-size with everyday comfort. introductionthough it's now the oldest design among current full-size pickups, the dodge ram may still be the best-looking truck on the market. Clearly, it's the most stylish.  it drives and rides well with quick steering and excellent brakes. Five engines are offered: 3. 9-liter v6, 5. 2-liter v8, 5. 9-liter v8, 8. 0-liter v10 and two cummins 5. 9-liter diesel inline-6 choices. Every engine comes with a choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Short and long beds are available.  the 5. 2-liter v8 produces 230 horsepower, while the 5. 9-liter v8 generates 245 horsepower and an impressive 335 pounds-feet of torque. The basic cummins diesel produces 235 horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of torque, while the new-for-2001 high-output version cranks out 245 horsepower and a stump-pulling 505 pounds-feet of torque.  standard, club cab and quad cab bodies are available in lt, laramie slt, and sst trim levels. The bold design with broad-shouldered front fenders is reminiscent of big freightliners steaming down the road with a full load of logs. It remains the best-looking pickup on the market. To improve structural rigidity, dodge designed a beam that runs laterally under the truck, and reinforced both the a and c pillars. Side door guard beams were also added to improve protection from side impacts.  the optional sport package comes with a body-colored grille and front and rear bumpers, decals, fog lamps, outline white letter tires, and cast aluminum wheels. The absence of a b-pillar makes it much easier to get in or out of the rear seat; it also makes it much easier to stick something behind the front seats. This includes a new steering wheel design, a big storage compartment, an extra power point, and new cupholders designed to handle any commercially available drink container. Other recent improvements include a keyless remote entry system, an upgraded base sound system, a cassette and cd sound system option and a new center console. The instrument pod features vacuum-fluorescent odometer and trip odometer that are tamperproof, and there are driver-programmable keyless entry key fobs. Other interior features include heated power mirrors, illuminated power door locks and window switches, and an optional security alarm system.  the front seat in all rams is divided 40/20/40, with a huge fold-down center section that doubles as armrest and writing table. When no one is sitting in it, the center position provides a large storage box, with divided spaces for coins, cassettes, maps or a laptop computer. The front seat belts are integrated into the seats themselves, which gets rid of messy hanging belts -- a particularly nice improvement for the wide-open quad cab doorway.  the quad cab rear seat is the same one used in other extended cab versions. It's handy for children, pets and petite adults, but it is not very comfortable for adults on long trips. The bench portion of the seat flips up out of the way effortlessly from either side for hauling tools or cargo. The power window option comes with an express-down switch on the driver's side. Steering wheel mounted radio controls are optional. There are two new overhead console designs; one with and one without trip computer. This engine has a ton of torque and a broad power band, which makes it a great deal of fun to drive. Passing is effortless. The manual transmission can add flexibility in off-road situations, but we recommend the automatic for street use. Rear suspension is a conventional live axle with leaf springs designed to carry heavy loads. The dodge v8 pickup truck has for years had a special kind of presence on the street, and the ram backs up that presence with excellent street manners and ride.  steering revisions that were new last year make steering much more precise than earlier models. Steering in the earlier rams was light and quick, but had a lot of dead space on-center and seemed to require constant left-right adjustments.  braking, with discs in front, drums in rear, is exemplary. The ram stops quickly with superb straight-line stability. Recent improvements to the instrumentation, powertrain and body combinations have made it an all-around better truck.

2003 dodge neon review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Practical, affordable and fun to drive. introductiondodge neon is practical and fun to drive. Neon features a roomy interior and is available at an affordable price. Dodge claims it's the quickest production vehicle sold in america for less than $20,000. It has wind-up windows, manual door locks, and 14-inch tires on steel wheels. There's no tachometer, no keyless remote. Floor mats 50) are optional. Mirrors and bodyside moldings are black. Am/fm/cd 125) is available. Power features are available as optional equipment.  sxt 14,895) adds air conditioning, am/fm/cd with six speakers, power windows, power door locks (with speed-sensitive automatic locking), keyless remote, power mirrors, power trunk lid release, full instrumentation, map lights, 15-inch aluminum wheels, bodyside molding, body-color door handles. A trunk lid spoiler is a no-cost option. A power sunroof 695) is optional. A six-disc in-dash cd changer 300) is optional. Power rack-and-pinion steering is standard. We highly recommend opting for abs as it allows the driver to maintain steering control in a panic-braking situation. Cruise control 235) is optional.  r/t 16,735) is designed to be fun to drive. The six-disc in-dash cd is standard, interior lighting is upgraded and there's a trunk light. A leather interior 715) is optional and comes with compass and outside temperature readouts on the rearview mirror. Seat-mounted supplemental side air bags 390) are optional (a smart option, but they don't provide the head protection of a curtain system). Three-point seat belts are provided for all three rear-seat positions.  . walkarounddodge neon maintains its cab-forward design and ovoid headlamps, but new front and rear fascia give it a freshened appearance for 2003.  the new front fascia features a more integrated, more organic design. The upper grille has been enlarged, giving the neon a cleaner, more aggressive, more contemporary appearance. The lower grille is more subtle, yet sportier. The redesigned front bumper better integrates the available fog lamps.  a new rear spoiler is attached at the ends, giving it a more integrated appearance than the previous wing. Last year's spoiler looked more like an aftermarket wing that had been tacked on. New exterior door handles, bodyside moldings and other detail work freshen the neon. All models get new wheel designs.  srt-4's grille is an inverted version of the neon grille. Just behind the lower grille sits a cast-aluminum intercooler; dodge left it visible in keeping with the car's intent. A functional hood scoop and unique integrated fog lamps give it an aggressive look. The tall rear basket-handle spoiler is designed to look outrageous and it succeeds. Sill-mounted ground effects give it the look of a sport compact car. Big tires fill the wheel well openings. Special wheels are designed to channel air to the brakes to help keep them cool.  neon's long wheelbase and wide track contribute to its roomy interior, smooth ride quality and high-speed stability. Full-frame doors reduce wind noise and create a tight seal. The current neon has a more rigid body structure than first-generation models, which results in a smoother, quieter, more controlled ride.  . interiordodge neon features a roomy cabin, with generous front hip room. The driver sits high, for good visibility. Neon's front-seat space is comparable for the class. It has a bit more leg room than a honda civic sedan, a bit more headroom than a chevrolet cavalier. Neon sxt's new rear spoiler restricts rearward vision down low, but not unduly.  sxt's seats are quite comfortable, cushy and supportive. The side bolsters on the seat seemed a bit soft, but felt fine while driving. The new cloth trim feels good and looks like it will hold up well. Vinyl trim on the front edges of the seats gives them a nicely finished look and feel.  dash and door trim are made of a premium material that is soft to the touch, providing an attractive appearance and feel and lacking the plastic look of many compacts. The stereo sounded mediocre. Having to press a button to get the key out of the ignition slot seems like an unnecessarily annoying extra step. It's not a bad place to spend short-to-medium-length trips. Rear-seat roominess is about average for the class.  the trunk is reasonably large, about average for the class. Gooseneck hinges intrude into the cargo space, but afford a relatively large trunk opening. Liftover height is on the high side. The rear seat splits 60/40 and folds down for carrying additional cargo.  srt-4 comes with special interior trim, including a satin-silver center stack, shift knob and door handles. Srt-4 seats are modeled after those in the dodge viper with enhanced lumbar and lateral sections for better support when cornering. Agate-colored cloth is designed to grip the driver. Cast aluminum pedals look like those seen in racecars. A turbo boost/vacuum gauge sits to the right of the instrument cluster, underneath the dash brow.  . driving impressiondodge neon rides well, handles well, and the standard engine delivers good acceleration performance. It doesn't lead the class in refinement, however. It doesn't ride as smoothly nor is it as quiet as, say, a toyota corolla.  neon's single-overhead-cam 2. 0-liter engine delivers decent power. It lacks power down low in the rev range, however. Step on it while cruising at 3000 rpm and it slowly gathers speed. There's a small rush of power that starts somewhere around 4000 rpm, but there isn't great gobs of it. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8. 5 seconds, which makes it quicker than many more-expensive compacts, including honda civic lx, mazda protege lx, or nissan sentra gxe. New motor mounts for 2003 are designed to reduce noise. Still, the 2. 0-liter engine is relatively unrefined and its boomy and raucous behavior is transmitted into the cabin.  the manual gearbox works well, but shifting is clunky. Manual transmissions have a revised fifth-gear ratio for 2003 designed to improve fuel efficiency on the highway.  automatic transmissions on 2003 models have been recalibrated for improved driveability, and a new, more elaborate electronic controller should provide better communication between engine and automatic transmission.  the suspension does a good job of balancing ride quality and handling agility. The neon is fun to drive on winding roads, offering good response in transient (left, right, left) maneuvers. The suspension does a good job of preventing the car from bottoming on dips, reducing the need to slow way down. When we hit a sharp dip at a neighborhood intersection, the neon's suspension was soft enough to absorb the harshness of the dip, yet it was firm enough and had enough travel to avoid bottoming. The front of the neon did not scrape on this dip, a place where many cars before have scraped. Its fully independent strut-type suspension is designed for high ground clearance and long jounce travel. This improves ride quality while decreasing the chance of bottoming under heavy loads. Soft springs and premium shocks contribute to neon's ride quality.  the brakes that come standard on the se and sxt work w.

2005 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The second-row and third-row seats flip down into the floor, leaving a huge, perfectly flat cargo compartment behind the front seats. No other minivan currently has second-row seats that disappear into the floor.  with seating for seven, the grand caravan can carry half the little league team with room left over for their stuff. Selectively folding away the seats gives its owner great versatility in hauling a mix of passengers and cargo. No need to pull seats out and store them in the garage or to try to put stuff on top of them. And its cargo space is more accessible and more convenient than that of suvs.  other new and revised features further improve the grand caravan for 2005, making it a compelling choice among a strong group of competitors that have been recently been redesigned. Also more compelling: pricing, which has been dropped by an average of $3,000.  the shorter caravan models are largely unchanged and have the old seating system. Dodge added new features to the caravan for 2004, including a tire pressure monitor. Its stereo systems feature in-dash, six-disc cd changers.  on the road, the dodge grand caravan and caravan offer a smooth ride and responsive handling. Most models come with a powerful v6 engine that delivers strong acceleration for merging onto hectic freeways. It comes standard with air conditioning, variable intermittent wipers, am/fm/cd stereo, and 215/70 tires on 15-inch steel wheels.  caravan sxt 22,295) is the short van equipped with a 3. 3-liter v6 and a higher level of standard equipment, though it does not get stow 'n go. Sxt adds second-row bucket seats, dual-zone manual air conditioning, tilt steering, cruise control, power windows, power heated mirrors, power locks with remote keyless entry, an upgraded am/fm/cassette/cd stereo, a rear window defroster, sunscreen glass, 215/65 tires on 16-inch aluminum wheels, a tire-pressure monitor, and other niceties, plus an expanded list of options.  grand caravan se 21,995) is a long-wheelbase base model, similarly equipped to the caravan se. But it's powered by the 3. 3-liter v6 engine. Along with stow 'n go, the grand caravan sxt features second-row adjustable seats, a 60/40 split third-row bench with tailgate feature, front and rear cargo nets, dual power sliding doors, fog lamps, rear heat/air-conditioning system, roof rack, eight-way power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, steering-wheel audio controls, overhead console with trip computer and compass/temperature gauge, and a new carbon weave center stack bezel.  side-impact curtain airbags are optional. All-wheel drive has been dropped from the menu for 2005. Packages are available in a dizzying array of combinations. walkarounddodge caravan and grand caravan are large vehicles, but not outrageously so. Measuring just over 200 inches long and less than 5-feet, 10-inches tall, even the grand caravan will fit just about anywhere a full-size sedan will fit. Bumper to bumper, the standard caravan measures 189. 3 inches long. Grand caravan's extra 11 inches makes a big difference in the amount of cargo it can carry with all three rows of seats in place. Caravan rides on a wheelbase of 113. 0 inches, while the grand caravan stretches across a wheelbase of 119. 3 inches.  grand caravan and caravan are sleek and attractive with steeply raked windshields and aggressive grilles. The tracks for the sliding side doors are cleverly camouflaged under the rear side windows for a clean appearance. The d-pillars and rear window are steeply inclined for a sporty look, and a discrete spoiler rises from the trailing edge of the roof. Flared wheel openings add strength to the appearance. Headlamps and taillamps are big, the latter wrapping around to the sides. The optional roof rack is hunkered close to the roof, stylistically less obtrusive and perhaps less likely to generate wind noise, but also offering less clearance for the thicker hooks of some tie-downs.  the 2005 grand caravan models are distinguished by a new u-shaped grille with black grille bars, is a design cue shared with the new dodge magnum. The front fascia is new with a molded-in license plate pocket and new fog lamps, while the sides get new body-colored side moldings.  models with power sliding doors on both sides add convenience when moving passengers. Press the button on the remote transmitter twice and the door slides open; press it twice again and it slides closed and seals. From the second-row seat, the power sliding door can be opened and closed by pressing a button; it can also be opened manually. A safety lock switch hidden on the trailing edge of the door can be engaged to prevent a child from opening the sliding door from inside. The power sliding doors can be fussy when passengers are in a hurry to get out, however, and they usually are. Pulling on the outside lever opens the power door manually, with just slightly more effort than opening a regular manual door.  models with manually operated sliding doors are easy to operate, smoothly sliding open and closed with the pull of a nicely designed lever. The outside door handles are comfortable and well designed; they impart a feeling of quality in appearance and operation. All door handles should be this good, but they aren't.  a power rear liftgate is available that adds convenience when picking up groceries or supplies. Press a button on the remote control and the liftgate opens or closes automatically. The material is soft and appears to be durable. Faux carbon fiber trim added a touch of high-tech to the cabin.  the seats in the grand caravan seemed more bucket-like than those of the town & country and not as comfortable. There is a manually adjustable lumbar support, however, and the seatbacks seem to have more side bolstering than the t&c. Exposed screws on the power seat adjusters did not feel aesthetically pleasing. The seating position is higher than that of a sedan, which enables drivers to see over traffic. The second and third rows of seats fold flat into the floor leaving a perfectly flat platform for cargo. Folding and unfolding the seats is a quick three-step process. Pull one strap to drop the seatback, then pull two other straps to tuck it into the floor. This leaves a perfectly flat platform. Very few seats fold perfectly flat and no one else (except the chrysler town & country) has a second row that does this. The system is also flexible. The third row is split 60/40 and either or both of the second-row captain's chairs can be stowed. Grand caravan sxt and se plus models come standard with stow 'n go.  the second-row seats move fore and aft to optimize legroom for rear passengers. Getting into the third row is a little awkward, but easier than in most suvs. Once back there, the third-row seating is comfortable, though the seat bottoms are steeply raked.  the low floor makes getting in and out through the side doors easy. The low load height also makes loading cargo easier, and the grand caravan can carry more stuff and bigger items than any suv. There's a fair amount of cargo space behind the third row. When the seats are in place for passengers, there are wells behind the third-row seats that are perfect for groceries. Another net can be secured between either. 2007 dodge caliber review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new compact boasts innovative design and features. introductiondodge has introduced a remarkable replacement for the neon. There's also a choice of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, the latter making the caliber a capable winter vehicle. The caliber is relatively affordable. Its starting price is below last year's neon, and fuel economy is respectable, achieving 28/32 city/highway miles per gallon in its most frugal form, according to federal government estimates. At the other end of the scale, an srt4 version is expected in spring 2007 with a turbocharged engine generating 300 horsepower.  the front seats are comfortable, with lots of headroom, and there's a large amount of cargo space here. Packaging is functional, with folding rear seats that have an optional reclining adjustment and an optional fold-flat front passenger seat to make room for a ladder or more likely, a surfboard. A couple of innovative options, especially for a car in this price class, are an air conditioned compartment in the glove box to chill water bottles or sodas and a swing-down stereo speaker panel attached to the liftgate that converts the back end to a sound stage for beach parties or tailgating.  the caliber is no sports car, but we most enjoyed the mid-level sxt model with the 2. 0-liter engine and five-speed manual transmission.  dodge is gambling a huge chunk of change on the hope new car shoppers looking for value and function can be persuaded hatchbacks are acceptable again, that five-door, small wagons have a place in american garages. The first two are available with a five-speed manual or an automatic continuously variable transmission.  the se 13,425) comes with the 1. 8-liter engine and five-speed manual transmission. The 2. 0-liter engine is optional 100), and both engines are available with the cvt automatic 1000). Air conditioning is not standard, nor are power windows. The se comes with manual roll-up windows and manual outside mirrors.  options for the se are as extensive as the standard equipment is basic. The power equipment group 545) includes power windows, outside mirrors and keyless remote central locking. There are two uplevel stereos, one adding cassette and mp3 capability and six-disc cd changer 420), the other just mp3 and the six-disc changer 320). Two other audio options are available, sirius satellite radio 195), including a pre-paid, one-year subscription, and a speaker package called musicgate power 435) comprising a boston acoustics sound system with nine speakers. A trailer tow group 130) adds an engine oil cooler and a wiring harness.  the sxt 15,425) also comes standard with the 1. 8-liter engine and five-speed manual, with the 2. 0-liter engine and cvt optional, but the list of standard features expands dramatically. Seat heaters can be ordered for the cloth seats 250). Cruise control is available 250), as is a sunroof 750), and uconnect, a bluetooth, hands-free cell phone capability 275). A driver convenience group 400) adds a compass, an ambient temperature gauge, homelink, auto-dimming inside mirror and a tire pressure monitoring system. A security group 275) includes the cargo area cover, an alarm and an air filtration system. A sport package 645) includes fog lamps, 17-inch aluminum wheels and a sport appearance interior group with contrasting inserts on the cloth seats and color-keyed instrument bezels and gear indicator for the automatic transmission. Aluminum wheels are available 400). Audio options and other items listed above are also available.  the r/t 19,425) comes standard with the 2. 4-liter engine, the cvt, and all-wheel drive. Standard features include the sxt features, the sport appearance interior group, cruise control, leather-clad steering wheel with audio controls, cargo cover, a sport suspension with performance steering and p215/55r18 all-season performance tires on aluminum wheels. Massive headlights are notched into the leading corners of the front fenders. A pouting lower lip-like bumper separates the grille and headlights from a slimmer, lower air intake and (uplevel) fog lamps.  the side view shows strongly blistered fenders front and rear beneath a wedge-shaped beltline. The lower portions of the doors wear longitudinal moldings, again, body color or chrome highlighted, that look like a bi-level rocker panel but aren't, but that nevertheless minimize the caliber's height. Full-round door handles, either chrome-trimmed or body color, bridge scooped-out grip spaces.  the roofline arcs cleanly from its junction with the hood just aft of the front wheel well over the side door windows to pinch off at the tail end of the rear quarter glass. Topping this arc but stopping at the top of the backlight (rear windscreen) is an unbroken, thick strip of black molding the caliber's designers say is supposed to work with the arc and the truncated back end to impart a coupe look. We're not sure why that was important or that it necessarily succeeds, but it does buff up the caliber's side aspect.  the back end pulls from the magnum, too, with a steeply raked backlight beneath a roof-mounted spoiler and above a mostly upright lower liftgate, employing a hatchback style arguing against any comparisons with a traditional station wagon. A relatively short rear overhang and oversize taillight housings add credence to the argument. interiorstep inside the caliber and the dodge legacy is loud and clear. Gauges are large, round and gleefully legible. The center stack presents the stereo face and climate control panel in stark relief with functional knobs, buttons and switches and trimmed in matte metallic plastic or not-very-convincing wood grain.  the shift lever extends from the base of the stack; the notched gate on the cvt makes ratio selections intuitive, the manual gearbox less so, but not bad for a front-wheel-drive. The power point serves neither the cell phone holder nor a radar detector well; located at the extreme base of the center stack, it leaves cords either draped over the center console's cup holders or dangling down the dash between the instrument cluster and the center stack.  the mp3 player/cell phone holder flips up out of the front of the center console armrest and, while properly sized for an ipod or similarly shaped mp3 device, adapts best to candy bar-style cell phones. This eases climbing in and out.  the front seats are comfortable, but far from plush, with decently bolstered back cushions. Bottom cushions, or squabs in designer lingo, are more flat than sculpted and a bit short on thigh support.
