2004 ford freestar cargo van review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. An improved and renamed minivan. introductionfreestar is the new name for ford's minivan. It previously was the windstar, but ford marketers claim the minivan was so radically changed that it warranted a new name. However, the freestar is really a windstar, albeit a much improved one.  the improvements move the ford freestar closer to par with its prime competitors, the honda odyssey and toyota sienna, but do not leapfrog it ahead of them.  ford also renamed the freestar to fit into its new naming structure. Ford's car-like vehicles start with the letter f: focus, the upcoming freestyle crossover vehicle and the futura sedan. Sport-utilities will start with an e: explorer, expedition, escape.  on the road, the new ford freestar is smooth and quiet. The freestar's best feature is its interior ambience, an elegant cabin trimmed in high-quality materials. The entry-level price for freestar is $705 more than a comparable 2003 windstar.  the se 26,245) adds: remote keyless entry system; cruise control; roof rack; privacy glass; and an am/fm stereo with cd player. The se is nearly equivalent to the 2003 windstar lx but is priced $70 less.  the freestar ses 28,065) includes all the se equipment plus air conditioning with tri-zone temperature control, driving lamps, power driver's seat, five-spoke aluminum sport wheels, and a unique grille, bumpers and trim treatment. Freestar ses is nearly equivalent to the 2003 windstar lx deluxe but is priced $195 more.  the freestar sel 29,310) includes many ses features plus a 4. 2-liter v6 engine, first- and second-row bucket seats, keyless entry keypad, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with built-in audio controls, cornering lamps, an overhead console with a compass and outside temperature display and an am/fm stereo with cassette, cd player and rear seat audio controls. The freestar sel is priced $80 higher than a 2003 windstar se.  the top-of-the-line limited 32,945) includes all sel equipment plus power sliding rear passenger doors, electronic automatic climate control, power-adjustable brake and accelerator pedals, unique interior trim, including leather seating surfaces, two-tone exterior treatment and power heated signal mirrors with puddle lamps. The freestar limited is priced $1,880 less than a 2003 windstar limited.  prices listed do not include incentives that were included as soon as the vehicles were launched. Those incentives could fluctuate through the year, however.  available individual options include: a dvd rear-seat entertainment system with wireless headphones 1,395); and a six-disc cd changer 150). Options for late-2004 models include a power liftgate and a class ii towing package 335) that will boost the towing capacity from 2,000 pounds to 3,500 pounds. A memory package is available that includes adjustable pedals and a memory system for the driver's seat, pedals and exterior mirrors.  safety features include dual front airbags and standard anti-lock brakes on all versions of the freestar. Ford's optional safety canopy 695) curtain airbag system runs the length of the minivan on both sides and includes sensors that monitor a rollover. If a rollover is detected, the air bags deploy from the headliner and stay inflated for up to six seconds and can protect the heads of occupants in all three rows. Seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front passengers complement the safety canopy.  while the freestar has not yet been crash tested by the federal government, ford anticipates it to perform well as did the windstar. Other active safety features available include ford's advancetrac electronic stability control 395), panic brake assist, and a reverse sensing system that detects objects behind the vehicle when backing up. Self-sealing tires 280) and turn-signal indicato. walkaroundthe ford freestar barely looks any different from the windstar. It is based on the windstar and, in fact, the only exterior parts that are new are the hood, grille and headlamps, front fenders and rear liftgate.  the freestar sticks with a traditional, mainstream minivan styling formula, which generally has been more popular than radically different ones, at least until this summer's introduction of the dramatically designed nissan quest.  one distinguishing feature of the freestar is an odd one. The front side windows lower below the inside portion of the door trim so when the window is fully down, the sill protrudes up. Designers say it was done to create an armrest of a comfortable height.  a power liftgate will be offered on the freestar late in the model year. interiorthe freestar's interior is trimmed in high-quality materials. It looks elegant, with a delicate watch-like clock in the center dashboard as its focal point. The freestar is a beneficiary of the increased spending ford motor co. Has been putting into interiors. The freestar interior represents a dramatic upgrade over the windstar interior.  the freestar seats seven passengers: two in front, two in the second row and three in the third row. The second row comes standard with a bench seat. Captain's chairs, standard on the sel and limited, slide horizontally on rails. They also fold and tumble forward like those on the ford explorer and expedition for easy access to the third row or extra cargo space.  while the windstar had a bulky removable third-row seat, the freestar has a third-row seat that folds into a well behind the seat, creating a flat floor like that in the honda odyssey, toyota sienna, and nissan quest. Ford's fold-flat seat may well be best in class in terms of operation. By pulling straps numbered in sequence with numbers 1, 2 and 3 clearly noted, the seat drops easily into the wheel.  another plus is that ford designed third-row head restraints that push deeper into the seat so they don't require removal to fold the seat, as other minivans do. The third-row seat can be dropped backwards to create seating for tailgate parties.  with the third-row seat in place for passengers, the well behind it has about 25 cubic feet of cargo space, an extremely handy spot for groceries. No more melons rolling about. The cargo volume expands to 135 cubic feet when the third-row seat is folded and second-row seats are removed (possible but clumsy for one person).  the downside of ford's third-row seat, however, is its short height compared with the honda odyssey and toyota sienna. As a result, even people with relatively normal length legs will feel like their knees sit too high. The seats works fine for small children.  seat comfort throughout the freestar, as was the case with the windstar, is not exceptional. The second-row captain's chairs seems too narrow. The driver's seat also seems designed for a slim person.  storage space is abundant throughout the freestar. It includes bins in the rear sliding doors for books and toys. Front doors have double map pockets, one above the other. On the dash is a covered storage compartment for small items like cell phones. The drivers' seat on the limited model has a kangaroo pouch at the front of the cushion.  the freestar has numerous cupholders, including front door holders for 20-ounce bottles. Some of the beverage holders, particularly those in the far back are awkwardly positioned, however. Well positioned and well built are sturdy cupholders that fold down from the sides of the second-row captain's chairs. If kicked, as they likely will be, they snap back into storage against the seats. driving impressionbeneath the ford freestar's mildly revised skin is the same front-wheel-drive architecture used for the windstar. But many improvements have been made.  two engines are available. The standard 3. 9-liter v6 generates 193 horsepower and 245 lbs.-ft. Optional is a 4. 2-liter v6 that delivers 201 horsepower and 263 lbs.-ft of torque. Neither engine matches the horsepower of the new nissan quest, rated at 240 horsepower, nor the redesigned toyota sienna at 230 horsepower. It's on par with th. 1997 ford expedition review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The chevrolet/gmc suburban, augmented in 1994 by the slightly smaller chevy tahoe and gmc yukon, were really the only choices for those who wanted a lots of interior space, heavy-duty towing capacity and, properly equipped, the capability of taking to the backwoods. The only other entry with similar size and capabilities was the warlike am general hummer.  the picture has changed now. And with the suburban, at least, garageability can be an issue. But with the world's lowest fuel prices, the mpg issue is offset for u. From the front, it is a near-twin to the ford f-150 pickup truck. The reason for the resemblance is simple: the expedition is based on ford's immensely popular truck--the best-selling vehicle in the country 15 years running--sharing its chassis, drivetrains, suspensions, major interior components and front end body panels. We consider that a benefit, as the f-truck is a handsome, modern design with plenty of rugged hardware underneath.  from the side and rear, the expedition bears a strong resemblance to the smaller explorer. No surprise there, since ford stylists found that the explorer's looks scored well with both current and potential owners. No panels interchange between, however; the expedition is larger in every dimension.  it is handsome, with a sloping hoodline and rounded front end that reflect an interest in aerodynamic design--with reductions in wind noise that result--and a move away from the monster truck image presented by previous bluff-fronted designs. The sides and back are shaped more for utility than style, though what are essentially flat panels are given some visual definition by clever use of trim and rounded corners.  the overwhelming impression is one of size, even though the design disguises the expedition's bulk to some extent. At just over 17 feet in length, this is no wraith. The suburban is even longer, adding a foot-and-a-half to the total. Ford touts the shorter length as making its entry compatible with a standard garage, which the suburban, they say, is not. Differences are confined to paint and trim, and even these distinctions can be blurred further by checking off items from a long list of optional equipment. Depending on seating configuration, the expedition can carry five (front bucket seats, center bench), or six (front full-width seat, center bench) passengers, plus two more if the optional third seat is installed. First- and second-row occupants get separate heat/vent/air conditioning controls, with a set for the third seat optional.  visually, the expedition interior is most appealing. The eddie bauer roof console adds a digital display of the driver's choice of date/time, average fuel economy or compass, plus a switch for the power swing-out rear quarter windows.  materials and finish quality are all first rate. Particularly noteworthy are the soft-touch coverings applied to switches (which are also internally lit at night, a nice touch) and door panels. driving impressiona first-time expedition driver's initial impression is, inevitably, one of being surrounded by a lot of sheet metal. This is a big machine, requiring extra care in close-quarter maneuvering. But bulk doesn't make the expedition difficult to drive. On the contrary; the speed-sensitive variable-assist steering keeps effort down to a reasonable level, and driver sightlines, augmented by big side mirrors, are excellent.  it is also a comfortable machine. The ride, while not as soft as that of a traditional family sedan or wagon, is good, and cornering roll and brake dive are effectively controlled. The 2wd version is slightly smoother on the highway thanks to its independent front suspension, but both 2wd and 4wd models are very good considering their size and weight. Also part of the system is a one-inch increase in ride height, and a 'kneel-down' facility that makes ingress and egress easier.  two v8 engine choices, 4. 6 liters (standard) and 5. 4 liters are available in the expedition. They share basic architecture--a cast-iron cylinder block with aluminum single overhead cam cylinder heads--and differ only in capacity and power output. We prefer the optional engine, because it produces more torque at lower engine speed. Both versions are relatively quiet, and provide respectable acceleration. Both can tow good-sized loads--6100 pounds for the 4. 6, up to 8000 with the 5. 4-liter. Those capabilities are better than the tahoe/yukon, though certain suburban powertrain combinations can raise the towing ante to 10,000 pounds, if that's a priority.  like all of the brute utes, the expedition's fuel consumption is on the high side. summaryon or off the highway, the ford expedition raises the stakes in its two-player segment. It is subjectively more comfortable and refined than its gm rivals, easier to maneuver, and has up-to-date styling inside and out. Power Windows✔ Bucket Seats✔ CD Changer✔ Air Conditioning

2005 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New models expand superb new lineup. introductionford f-150 has been the best-selling full-size pickup for 27 consecutive years, and it's the most important, most profitable vehicle ford makes. Last year ford threw away the old formula and created a new f-150 from the ground up. At the top is a new king ranch model lavishly outfitted in castano leather. At the bottom is a new v6 model available with an automatic or manual transmission. An inexpensive work truck model has been added as well. In between is the industry's widest variety of body configurations: three cab styles, three bed lengths, two bed styles, and a choice of v8 engines. The f-150 comes equipped with dual frontal airbags designed to deploy according to the severity of the crash and who or what is occupying the seat. The xl, stx, xlt, fx4, lariat, and king ranch each boast their own interior style and features. Engines, suspensions and cab configurations are designed to meet specific needs. Xl is readily identifiable by its black grille and fascia and 17-inch steel wheels, though it comes with chrome bumpers. Xl is available in regular cab or supercab (extended cab) styles. An f-150 xl 4. 2-liter v8 regular cab 2wd automatic short wheelbase retails for $21,455, but a v6 manual will lower that price to $19,610; a long-wheelbase 4x4 v8 automatic supercab is priced at $29,690. (manufacturer's suggested retail prices are subject to change and do not include the destination charge of $795.)  stx is sportier than the xl, with a body-colored grille-surround for the black bar grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Stx comes in styleside (flat) and flareside (fendered) body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional. Stx starts at $22,285.  xlt is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than xl though not as luxurious as lariat. It comes with a honeycomb grille that sets it apart from the other models. Xlt comes in regular cab, supercab or supercrew, with a choice of 5. 5-, 6. 5-, or 8-foot bed lengths, and styleside or flareside body styles. A premium cloth interior is standard on the bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash. Supercab, as well as supercrew versions, get power windows for the rear doors. The xlt also features an overhead rail console system that the owner can tailor to his or her needs. Fog lamps come standard on 4x4 xlts. An xlt supercrew 4x4 5. 4-liter v8 automatic retails for $35,275.  fx4 is a special off-road model. The interior features chrome trim and markings, and a floor shifter. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab, and supercrew body styles, with either 5. 5-foot styleside or 6. 5-foot flareside or styleside bed designs (no 8-foot bed). The standard engine is the 5. 4-liter v8. The fx4 has its own instrument package as do the rest of the models, with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather are optional, and 18-inch cast aluminum wheels are standard. An f-150 fx4 supercrew retails for $34,605.  lariat is the luxury model. It has its own grille design and comes standard with 18-inch wheels. Lariat features black-on-cream instruments, lots of wood trim and brushed metal, a multi-function steering wheel, and a shiny floor shifter mounted in a floor console. A power 40/20/40 split bench seat with seat memory is standard, along with power-adjustable floor pedals, an in-dash message center, and climate control. Heated power leather captain's chairs are optional. Lariat 2wd models are available in all three body styles, but 4x4 versions are only available with styleside fenders. An f-150 lariat supercrew 4x4 starts at $35,875.  king ranch features rich castano leather designed to capture the spirit of the historic texas cattle ranch. It comes as a supercrew distinguished by with a color-coordinated grille, arizona beige running boards, and other special trim. Inside are power-adjustable and heated captain's chairs in front, a 60/40 split bench seat in back, and unique interior tri. walkaroundredesigned for 2004, the ford f-150 looks much more manly than the previous-generation models. Its tall shoulders, bold front end and crisp lines give it a more utilitarian look that leaves no doubt that this is a serious truck. It's at least as stylish as the much-heralded dodge ram, but is totally different. In fact, the f-150 has a unique look, no small feat when designing within the hard parameters imposed by a pickup. In short, we think the new f-150 is a great-looking truck.  the f-150 has picked up styling cues from the handsome super duty pickups, including the sharp cut in the forward part of the door, allowing a clear view of the massive outside mirrors. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength and makes occupants feel more secure. The roofline is somewhat reminiscent of chopped-top custom street trucks.  the whole nose is shaped more squarely than the previous generation, which featured more feminine, more car-like curves. The grilles are larger and bolder. The front fascia wraps around to the fenders for a precise, sophisticated appearance. The bodyside and cargo box sheet metal is chiseled, though it looks more slab-sided at the same time, a theme that carries through the tailgate, giving the f-150 an upscale, utilitarian look that's very appealing.  the different trim levels are quite distinctive. Just one example: xlt and lariat have a honeycomb grille (black on xlt, brushed-nickel on lariat), while xl, stx, fx4, and king ranch use a bar-style grille.  practical considerations are a big part of the design, and some of this can be easily seen. Every bed, no matter which length or style, is two inches taller than previous-generation's beds to give more margin when hauling larger cargoes. The supercab (extended cab) doors are larger than the vestigial doors on the standard cab. At the other end of the spectrum is the king ranch, which evokes images of montana and cowboys. Lariat comes with every known amenity.  we found the xlt's front bench seats attractive, but they were flat and lacked support. The front bench is split three ways. They also looked great, trimmed in black leather with light gray stitching. Adjusting the power seats may be a little awkward for drivers with big arms because the clearance between the door armrest and the seat is a little tight; rake adjustment on the power driver's seat is manual, and raking it forward can be a bit awkward. The center console between the captain's chairs is deep and holds a lot of stuff and features a pair of big, solid cup holders. The floor shifter for the automatic works very well.  the radio and hvac controls are plain but straightforward and easy to operate. Giant mirrors afford an excellent view rearward. 2005 ford freestar wagon review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Though introduced as a new minivan with a new name for 2004, much of the freestar's structure and design came from the windstar it replaced. Windstar offered class-leading safety and solid performance for its time. But while the improvements that inspired the name change moved ford's minivan closer to its competitors, they did not leapfrog it ahead of them. Ford says the freestar is the highest quality minivan it has ever built. That contention is backed up by the j. Power and associates research firm, which found freestar's overall quality and mechanical quality better than most.  freestar is quite capable. When the third row reappears, it opens up seating for three more and leaves a deep well in back that's perfect for keeping groceries from rolling around. A new class ii towing package boosts trailering capacity to 3,500 pounds, enough to handle personal watercraft, snowmobiles, light boats, motorcycles, small campers and other toys.  out on the highway, the freestar is smooth and quiet. It glides over rough pavement. It's easy to drive, with responsive handling and a big, powerful v6 engine. We didn't think the freestar felt as refined as the best and newest of the minivans, however.  but freestar's strongest suit is safety: freestar earned five stars in the government's front-impact crash testing, and was named 'best pick' by the insurance institute for highway safety following rigorous crash testing for the insurance industry. To help drivers avoid crashing in the first place, the freestar comes standard with anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution. A tire-pressure monitor is standard and self-sealing tires are available. Options further improve the safety of the freestar: advancetrac electronic stability control helps drivers maintain control when swerving to avoid something or when entering a slippery corner too fast. Ford's safety canopy can help protect against head injuries in a rollover or side impact; unlike curtain airbags from other manufacturers that protect people in the first two rows, ford's system is designed to offer protection to passengers sitting on the outboard sides of the third row as well. Dual-stage driver and front-passenger air bags come standard and are designed to deploy at full or partial power depending on the severity of the crash. Freestar's seat belts use pretensioners and energy-management retractors to improve their effectiveness and reduce the chance of belt-related injuries. lineupfreestar is offered in five trim levels: the base model s; the popular, mid-level se and ses; and the up-level sel and limited. A cleverly designed third-row bench seat folds flat into the floor or turns backward to form a tailgate bench seat.  se 26,510) adds upgraded seats, a cd player, cruise control, privacy glass, and the logitudinal rails of a roof rack.  ses 26,010) adds dual-zone climate control, an overhead console with a compass and outside temperature display, six-way power driver's seat, fog lamps, and wider 235/60r16 all-season tires on aluminum wheels. Black-trimmed bumpers and grille replace the monochromatic look of the s and se.  freestar sel 29,010) boosts performance with a 4. 2-liter v6 engine. Sel also gets fold-and-tumble second-row bucket seats, automatic headlights, cornering lamps, an illuminated entry keypad on the driver's door, leather-wrapped steering wheel with built-in audio controls, and am/fm/cd/cassette stereo with auxiliary rear-seat controls. The grille is now chrome, and the bumpers revert to body color.  the top-of-the-line limited 32,710) includes all sel equipment plus dual power sliding doors, automatic climate control, power-adjustable brake and accelerator pedals, leather upholstery for the front seats, power heated mirrors with turn signals and puddle lamps, and contrasting-color bumpers for a two-tone effect.  options include a dvd rear-seat entertainment system with wireless headphones 1,395), and a six-disc cd changer 150). A memory package 305) stores settings for the mirrors, driver's seat, and pedals. A navigation system is not available on the freestar.  the active safety package i 395) combines panic brake assist, traction control, and ford's advancetrac stability control. Active safety package ii 750) adds a reverse-sensing system. Ford's optional safety canopy 695) side-curtain airbag system runs the length of the minivan on both sides and includes sensors that monitor for a rollover. If a rollover is detected, the air bags deploy from the headliner and stay inflated for up to six seconds to protect the heads of occupants in all three rows. Seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front passengers complement the safety canopy. The only obvious differences are the hood, grille, headlamps, front fenders, and rear liftgate.  freestar sticks with traditional, mainstream minivan styling. Freestar does have one odd, distinguishing feature: the front side windows drop below the inside portion of the door trim which, say the freestar's designers, remains at a comfortable arm-rest height. Power operation, a convenience much appreciated while running through the rain with armloads of groceries, is standard on limited and available on sel 900). A power-folding rear liftgate is also available.  freestar received a five-star rating in driver and passenger front impact as well as passenger side impact. Ford spent more money on the freestar's interior, which represents a dramatic upgrade over the windstar's.  storage space is abundant throughout. It includes bins in the sliding doors for books and toys. Front doors have double map pockets, one above the other. On the dash is a covered storage compartment for small items like cell phones. The driver's seat on the limited model has a kangaroo pouch at the front of the cushion.  the freestar seats seven passengers: two in front, two in the second row and three in the third row. Standard seating in the second row is a bench. Captain's chairs are also available, and they slide horizontally on rails. They also fold and tumble forward, like those on the ford explorer and expedition, for easy access to the third row, or for extra cargo space.  the third-row seat folds into a well in the floor behind it, creating a flat load platform. Ford's fold-flat seat may well be best-in-class in terms of ease of operation. Pull the clearly numbered straps in sequence, and the seat drops easily into the well. As a result, even people with relatively normal-length legs will feel like their knees are too high. The ford seat works best for small children.  in fact, seat comfort throughout the freestar is not exceptional. The driver's seat seems to have been designed exclusively for the fashionably slim. And the rake adjustment on the six-way power driver's seat is manual, less convenient than power. The second-row captain's chairs feel narrow.  audio and climate controls are easy to reach. It seems like the black plastic controls could be prettier, but they work well enough. The manual heating and air conditioning controls are rudimentary, but easy to operate. The available electronic climate control isn't aesthetically pleasing, but works well. The system controls three zones, driver, passenger, and rear. Rear air conditioning is useful for cooling kids and pets on hot days. Window switches  the freestar has numerous cupholders, including front door holders for 20-ounce bottles. Some of the beverage holders in the far-back are awkwardly positioned, but. Well positioned and well built are sturdy cupholders that fold down from the sides of the second-row captain's chairs. If kicked, as they likely will be, they snap back into their storage position against the seats. driving impressiontwo engines are available in the f.

2005 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. America's most popular suv. introductionfor more than a dozen years, the ford explorer has been the best-selling suv in america. In fact, it's the sixth best-selling vehicle. It's become the standard-issue suburban family hauler. Though capable as a tow vehicle and able to venture off the highway, most explorers spend their lives shuttling people, collecting groceries and performing the duties station wagons performed when baby boomers were growing up. The explorer answers this call admirably and comfortably, and that's a big part of the reason it's so popular.  the explorer is roomy and comfortable. It can seat seven people when equipped with the optional third-row seat, which folds flat into the cargo floor when not needed. Part of the reason for this is a superb five-speed automatic transmission. Explorer's wide track and long wheelbase give it a solid, stable stance, while its independent rear suspension (an unusual feature in a mid-to-large-size suv) gives it a smoother ride and better handling than suvs with traditional live rear axles.  safety features abound. Advancetrac with roll stability control is now standard on all explorers. This sophisticated system not only senses and corrects potential skids and slides, but also monitors for potential rollovers. We recommend the optional safety canopy airbags, which are designed to provide some protection in the event of a rollover. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are also standard, and a tire pressure monitor comes on all but the base model.  the explorer is rated to pull trailers up to 7,140 pounds when properly equipped, and though it does not excel at off-road travel, it can go most of the places most of us need to go. lineupthe 2005 ford explorer is available in six trim levels: xls, xls sport, xlt, xlt sport, eddie bauer, and limited.    an overhead-cam v6 engine is standard on all models. An overhead-cam v8 800) is an option for all models except the xls. All explorers come with a five-speed automatic transmission. Xls sport 2wd 28,260) and 4wd 30,490) add the tire-pressure monitoring system, 16-inch aluminum wheels, black step bars and wheel-lip moldings, an upgraded center console and floor mats.  xlt 2wd 29,650) and 4wd 31,875) get approach lamps in the side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a six-way power driver's seat, lumbar adjustment for both driver and passenger, an overhead console with outside-temperature indicator and compass, and warm steel accents for the center stack. Outside, a monochromatic treatment with chrome grille and fog lamps sets xlt apart. The limited 2wd 34,580) and 4wd 36,805) come with all the eddie bauer goodies, but a somewhat different look, thanks to chromed wheels and roof rails outside and higher-grade single-tone leather inside, with madarin teak accents.  all but xls can be ordered with third-row seating 745), auxiliary rear-compartment air conditioning 650), reverse-sensing system 255), power moonroof 850), and a dvd entertainment system 1,295). A trailer towing prep package 150) replaces the standard class ii hitch with a class iii/iv hitch and adds a 3. 73 (rather than 3. 55) limited-slip rear axle and seven-wire trailer harness.  second-row bucket seats with an extended floor console are available 795) on eddie bauer and limited. An off-road package 385) for xls and xlt consists of skid plates, tow hooks, off-road suspension and all-terrain tires.  the optional safety canopy air curtain system 560) is designed to help protect first- and second-row outboard occupants during side-impacts or rollovers, and is designed to improve rollover protection by staying inflated for a longer period. Ford has done a great deal of research on this technology and we strongly recommend this option. walkaroundwith its wheels pushed out toward the corners, the ford explorer looks stable and comfortable. Though ubiquitous, it is a handsome, good-looking vehicle. Front and rear fascia are smoothly integrated, while jeweled headlamps and tail lamps give it a sophisticated look. Various combinations of bright, blacked-out, color-contrasting or color-coodinated trim distinguish the xls from the xlt from the bauer from the limited. Uplevel models come standard with an illuminated keypad on the door for keyless entry. The keypad doesn't improve the appearance of the explorer, but it continues to be a popular feature among loyal ford owners. interiorthe explorer is a comfortable vehicle, even on long trips. We found the cloth seats in the xlt comfortable, firm, and supportive, with lots of adjustments. The same held true for the leather seats in the eddie bauer model.  adjustable pedals, a tilt steering wheel, and long seat travel help the explorer fit a wide variety of body types. Big coat hooks accommodate thick hangers and big loads of dry cleaning, something few manufacturers get right. Nicely designed cubbies with rubber mats provide space for a wallet, sunglasses, a pen, cans, and bottles. A relatively large center console keeps odds and ends in check. The interior door handles seemed a bit awkward at first, but that went away with familiarization. Map pockets on the insides of the doors are handy and swell at the end to hold water bottles, but wouldn't accommodate the one-liter size. The front power outlet was positioned well for a cell phone, but like most, was a reach for a radar detector. The trip computer came in handy, calculating the distance to an empty fuel tank. The optional six-disc in-dash cd player sounds good and is easy to operate, with large, clearly marked controls.  the second row of seats is quite comfortable. Many people prefer the second-row bucket seats available on eddie bauer and limited, which are more comfortable but only accommodate two passengers.  seatbelts use retractors and pre-tensioners designed to reduce injuries in a hard crash. The second-row center seat has an integrated shoulder belt, a feature not found on all suvs. All occupants should always wear their seat belts as they are the first line of defense in an accident.  third-row seating is available. In fact, the decision to add third-row seating drove the design and engineering of the current explorer. As a result, ford has done an excellent job of making the third row as roomy as possible, while also making it fold quickly into the floor when it isn't needed. It isn't comfortable for an adult. Head, hip, and leg room in the explorer's third row measure 38. 9, 45. 4, and 34. 9 inches, respectively, versus the envoy xl's 38. 5, 45. 9, and 31. 2. Yet the explorer rides on a relatively handy 113. 7 inch wheelbase, vs. The awkward 129 inches of the extended trailblazer and envoy. It is a tribute to the clever design of ex.

Sophisticated and tough on the outside, thoughtfully comfortable within, with plenty of power under the hood and an imposing range of safety and convenience features, The Ford F-250 is the industry pacesetter for trucks, and for good reason. Though introduced as a new minivan with a new name for 2004, much of the Freestar's structure and design came from the Windstar it replaced. But while the improvements that inspired the name change moved Ford's minivan closer to its competitors, they did not leapfrog it ahead of them. 2005 Ford Freestar Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale

The improvements move the Ford Freestar closer to par with its prime competitors, the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, but do not leapfrog it ahead of them. It previously was the Windstar, but Ford marketers claim the minivan was so radically changed that it warranted a new name. 2004 Ford Freestar Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ AM/FM✔ Climate Control✔ CD Player✔ CD Changer✔ Cruise Control✔ Air Conditioning
