2004 chrysler pacifica review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Pacifica is not a minivan. It's not an suv nor is it a station wagon. Pacifica takes its name from chrysler's pacifica design studio in southern california, where it was conceived several years ago.  pacifica doesn't look like other crossovers. A 250-horsepower v6 from the sporty chrysler 300m sedan delivers plenty of thrust and the automatic shifts smoothly. On the road, pacifica is smooth and quiet, with a rear suspension that comes from a mercedes e-class sedan. Available all-wheel drive provides all-weather traction and handling. Pacifica doesn't look like anything else on the road. It's less radical and less expensive than the nissan murano and infiniti fx45 crossovers, its glass-to-steel proportions are new and different, yet by its grille, the pacifica couldn't be anything but a chrysler.  pacifica is as much as 18 inches longer and 6 inches wider than some of its crossover competitors. Yet it is almost 3 inches lower to the ground than a typical minivan, which makes it easier to climb inside.  while the pacifica is in the lower part of the e-class price range, it is still a chrysler, as evidenced by its homegrown powertrain, the biggest, most powerful v6 chrysler has ever made, more than enough to haul typical family loads, and rated to tow as much as 3500 pounds. interiorclimbing into the chrysler pacifica is easy because it is relatively low to the ground. Redundant controls are mounted on the steering wheel for the cruise control and sound system. There's just enough brushed nickel-plating inside, on the shifter surround, the ventilators, and the door handles, to brighten up the interior without it looking gaudy.  the instrument panel is done as one swooping enclosure that goes from the back of the left door around to the back of the right front door. The dash features a major hood and a minor hood to keep the sun off the instrument faces. Under the sweeping hood, there's an interesting-looking set of instruments and controls, and right in the center of the speedometer, there's the small navigation screen, exactly where it should be for safest use. The dvd-based nav system is set up and run by a circular switch panel to the right of the steering wheel. Chrysler's new system is one of the easiest we've encountered, far simpler than the mercedes-benz system.  third-row seats fold down 50/50 and disappear for large cargoes. Second-row seats can be split into two sections and folded over to handle still larger cargoes. The second-row seats, split by the standard console, are as handsome as the front seats, but they do have to fold over for cargo, so they're not quite as cushy as the fronts. All the seat-folding symbols and directions were easy to follow the first time out. driving impressionthe pacifica we drove was a loaded-up version with the big stereo system, sirius satellite radio, the in-dash navigation system, and all-wheel drive. Chrysler is already working on that. But no matter how it sounds, the engine delivers. The autostick feature for manual shifting is fun to use, and the all-wheel-drive system is transparent. We were a little disappointed that the pacifica didn't come with a more flexible five-speed automatic, however.  under normal conditions, the all-wheel-drive system sends all of the power to the front wheels. But it can transfer up to 90 percent of the power to the rear wheels. It does this whenever the front wheels lose grip (under hard acceleration, for example). This feature helps the pacifica sail through corners like a sports sedan, rain or shine. The all-wheel-drive uses a viscous coupling in the center differential and an open differential at the rear.  while the steering system is not race-car communicative or direct, it's better than many, and the steering wheel feels good in the hands. We found the suspension a willing partner in the vehicle's performance, smooth and supple while controlling lean and wallow. The isolated front and rear subframes, the long wheelbase and wide stance really help to deliver a quality ride. The brakes got a workout from us, and they responded every time without fade or smell or any sign of distress. Abs comes standard, allowing the drive to maintain steering control under panic braking. summarychrysler pacifica turns and accelerates well in the dry weather of the california wine country, and we're itching to find out how it goes in a blinding rainstorm or on top of 12 inches of snow.  whether this really is a whole new kind of family transportation device or not, a 'segment buster' in chrysler's words, it's a lot of very versatile vehicle for the money. 2012 chrysler 200 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Essentially a loaded chrysler 200 limited, the chrysler 200 s comes standard with the 3. 6-liter pentastar v6. The front-wheel-drive chrysler 200 competes with the ford fusion, chevrolet malibu, nissan altima, toyota camry, and possibly the lexus es and lincoln mkz. Midsize sedans comprise america's largest market segment for cars, with 1. 7 million units sold per year. The chrysler 200 has an old-school feel all its own that separates it from these other cars.  the chrysler 200 replaced the much-maligned chrysler sebring. It uses the same platform as the sebring, but engineers changed and strengthened so many things (chassis, engine, transmissions, suspension, brakes, body, interior) that it was almost a new car. It's american, well-equipped and inexpensive. Popular options are bargain-priced, among them a cold weather package and media center with touchscreen and 30g music hard drive.  the cabin is one of the quietest in the segment, thanks to new sound absorption materials, as well as an acoustic glass windshield, laminated side glass usually found in higher priced vehicles, and special engine mounting for the i4 engine. The instrument panel's gray-on-gray graphics are pleasing, and its white accent lighting is wonderful at night, with nice ambient cockpit lighting.  underway, we were quite impressed by how smooth and solid the 200 feels. It's put together well. Low road noise means a lot, and the quiet michelin tires and new exhaust system help. Chrysler calls it autostick, a name they've been using for 15 years, because they invented it, and they remain true to its blissful simplicity. A 4-speed automatic comes on the base lx model.  the 200 comes with chrysler's longstanding 5-year 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. lineupthe 2012 chrysler 200 lx 18,995) comes with the 2. 4-liter engine with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 3. 6-liter v6 1,795) is optional and comes with an upgraded alternator, engine oil cooler, and dual exhaust with bright exhaust tips.  chrysler 200 limited 24,070) upgrades to leather upholstery, heated front seats, upgraded interior trim, remote start, touch-screen display, compass, outside temperature reading, 430-watt sound system media center cd/dvd with 40-gig hard drive, ipod input, bluetooth, u-connect hands-free phone, fog lamps, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels. The v6 is optional 1,795). Navigation is optional 695) and comes with sirius real time traffic and sirius travel link.  chrysler 200 s 26,365) comes standard with the 3. 6-liter v6 engine, boston acoustics sound system, leather, special front seats with suede inserts, heated front seats, perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels with black trim, body color mirrors and door handles, and special trim: black-barred grille, headlights with black background, unique foglight bezels, and a black-inlayed winged chrysler badge. The chrysler 200 front air dam is clean: low, thin, and horizontal. Its halogen headlights appear small from head-on, but flow around the front corners into the bulging fenders, creating a line that widens to the rear of the car. It makes a statement that says, we're bold not fancy. The main thing about the 200 is that it's big, for a midsize car, and it's american (also that it's well-equipped and inexpensive).  the rear deck lid looks chopped, with a chrome strip between led taillamps and another chrome bar between the exhaust outlets that widens the look of the car. It bears a wing logo in brushed metal and blue, replacing the old traditional wing logo, to signify the rebirth of chrysler.  the chrysler 200 is not a car that gathers second looks, at least not for its beauty. The seats feel supportive and should be comfortable for long periods behind the wheel.  rear legroom measures just 36. 2 inches, which is on the short side for a midsize car. The rear seat is split 60/40 and folds down for more cargo space, always appreciated.  the instrument panel contains the usual three round gauges, with gray-on-gray graphics that are pleasing to the eye, while its white accent lighting is wonderful at night. The three-spoke steering wheel has a thick leather-wrapped rim and padded hub with controls for the sound system and cruise setting. Armrests are soft, and door pockets roomy. Some models have two usb ports, handy for phone and laptop charging.  the cabin is one of the quietest in the segment, thanks to new sound absorption materials, as well as an acoustic glass windshield, laminated side glass usually found in higher priced vehicles, and new engine mounting for the 2. 4-liter engine. driving impressionthe standard powerplant for the chrysler 200 is the 173-horsepower, 2. 4-liter world engine that chrysler shares with mitsubishi and hyundai. With dual variable valve timing, the power is good at both low and high rpm, and its 166 foot-pounds of torque are sufficient for the demands of its owners. That's about what we got during a week of good seat time in the northwest.  later, we drove a convertible with the top down on a hot summer day near seattle, a. 2001 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Looks are only the beginning. introductionthere's nothing on the road quite like chrysler's new pt cruiser, and that's a big part of its fun. People from all walks and stations want a better look, intrigued by the cruiser's difficult-to-define character.  yet the really great thing about the pt cruiser is its combination of practicality and a reasonable price. Chrysler turned the automotive industry on its ear when it launched the dodge viper and plymouth prowler. Those cars showcased chrysler's design trends. Viper and prowler are great cars for serious enthusiasts who don't mind making a few sacrifices in terms of comfort and convenience. But, in a way, the pt cruiser is even more exciting because it's a real car suitable for everyday use by everyday people. When it comes to automotive styling, however, pictures speak louder than words. Yet with 63 inches from pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser is also 7 inches taller than a neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the pt cruiser has a thorough complement of safety features. Front passenger side-impact airbags are standard on the limited edition and optional on the base car. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions-including the rear seat's center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like luxury cars, to keep the belts tight during an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. interiorinside, the cruiser's t-shaped symmetrical dashboard uses painted inserts to pull exterior styling themes into the cabin. The instrument panel is clean, functional and aesthetically pleasing. The driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. Switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials and a single pair of buttons for the front windows. The door levers have a nice action and the switches operate with good tactile feel -- not world class, but a noticeable improvement over chrysler's sloppy mid-'90s standard.  the same improvement applies to the interior finish. The leather package, in particular, has a rich appearance, given the cruiser's price, with suede inserts in the doors and along the lower cushion edges.  the front seats have a reasonable amount of bolster to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. Perhaps more important, the seating position is upright, with a fairly high, commanding view ahead, much like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. And with 120. 2 cubic feet of interior volume, there's no premium on space in the pt cruiser. The government's standard for defining a large car, like the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, is 120 cubic feet.  all that space is largely a function of the cruiser's height. Its roof rises toward the rear, and its rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front are. The front seats are mounted on tall boxes, leaving plenty of room for rear passengers to stretch their legs underneath. An auto critic who stands six feet-nine-inches tall fit comfortably front or rear, in his preferred upright seating position.  chrysler claims the pt cruiser's cabin can be configured 26 different ways. We didn't count, but there are clearly a lot of options. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed, a movable parcel shelf, and an available front passenger seat that folds flat. The rear seats are anchored with quick-release attachments, and fitted with suitcase-style handles for lifting and steel wheels for rolling. The smaller section weighs 35 pounds, and the larger, 65. The load floor measures 40 inches between the wheel wells. The rear cabin has lots of tie-downs, including a pair on the center pillars that can be used with various seat configurations.  the parcel shelf and front passenger seat increase hauling options. The shelf can be positioned at the top of the rear seatbacks for a standard privacy cover over the cargo hold. It can be lowered to a level that creates a flat floor when the rear seat backs are folded forward. In can be installed vertically across the width of the cabin to divide the cargo hold, or hung out of the tailgate as a small table. It can also be turned over so its hard-plastic underside acts like a large tray, containing drops from dripping paint cans or mud from work boots.  with the front passenger seatback folded flat onto the bottom cushion, there's a table next to the driver and in front of the rear passengers. Even better, there can be more than 8 feet of flat surface between the dashboard and the tailgate. It weighs 3123 pounds with the manual transmission, meaning each of its 150 horsepower pulls roughly 21 pounds of iron. The 2. 4 happens to be the base engine in chrysler's minivans; for the cruiser, improvements were geared toward reducing noise and vibration rather than increasing power. Peak horsepower remains at 150, with 162 foot-pounds of torque. The shifter is surprisingly precise; it's not sports-car grade, but not bad for a longer-throw gate with a lever that's a foot long. Working the gears to get the most from the engine is a pleasant proposition in nearly all circumstances.  the automatic isn't as effective as the five-speed at getting the cruiser cruising, because the 2. 4's power is biased toward higher rpm. With properly timed dips of the accelerator, there's enough torque for safe, clean overtaking on two-lane roads.  the cruiser handles more like a sedan than a minivan. It will hustle with good composure and reasonable verve. Body lean is well controlled. By design, the cruiser understeers moderately, a push that warns a driver to slow down through curves. The cruiser's strut-type independent front suspension is similar to the neon's. Its rear suspension design maximizes cargo space, but the solid rear axle bounces a bit on rough pavement. Overall, however, chrysler's suspension engineers have delivered a good balance of handling and a comfortable ride.  they've also done a fine job of masking the cruiser's height. Only in quick, hard, slalom-type maneuvers does the pt cruiser start get top heavy. Yet most drivers will never drive hard enough to notice. And in sudden, emergency-type lane changes, the pt cruiser is more composed than the typical sport-utility or minivan. At speeds beyond legal interstate limits, the cruiser is stable, and not particularly susceptible to cross winds.  a lack of noise may be the most impressive, or surprising, of all the pt cruiser's qualities. There is little wind noise, almost no tire or road noise, and just an audible whine from the drivetrain. It has better noise, vibration and harshness control than chrysler products of the mid- to late 1990s have conditioned us to expect.  front disc and rear drum brakes are standard. The cruiser is, however, a car. AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Tachometer✔ Climate Control✔ CD Changer✔ Aluminum Wheels✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels

Crossovers are supposed to combine the best attributes of sport-utility vehicles, sedans and minivans, and the Pacifica still does that as well as any, at very attractive prices. New engine and transmission offer better fuel economy and power. IntroductionThe Chrysler Pacifica helped launch a trend that those in the car business call crossover vehicles.  For 2007, the Pacifica benefits from fairly substantial changes, starting with a smoother, more powerful V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission
