2009 nissan murano review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new version improves on successful original. introductionnissan's recent history is for the most part a success story, and part of that success comes from designing one set of parts into a platform and then stretching that platform's length, width, and strength to do other jobs under other kinds of vehicles. Nissan does this better than most manufacturers, and has done it successfully once again with the 2009 murano, using basically the same kit of parts that goes under the altima coupe and sedan for a much larger, heavier and more complex crossover suv. Murano is named after two different luxury items from two very different parts of the world, murano art glass from italy and murano pearls from japan, which is a good thing, considering it's sold in more than 130 countries.  the outgoing murano has been one of the most successful models in nissan's recent history, with sales rising every year since its introduction in 2003, and a loyalty rate upwards of 30 percent. With sales up more than 70 percent, they've stopped production on the original murano and given us this brand new second-generation version to consider.  the 2009 nissan murano is several steps more radically styled that the original. There are many more curves in the body sheetmetal, a much bigger, shinier grille with a less-busy air intake under it, very large, bold, seven-element headlamps, and a completely new rear-end design, more horizontal than vertical, with dual exhaust ports under the bumper.  murano models come with 18-inch wheels, with 20-inch wheels standard on the top le model and optional on the others. This design strategy lets the body and the paint do all the talking. The new body is almost two counts better in aerodynamic performance than the 2007 version, improved from 0. 37 to 0. 39 cd. The more slippery design should mean better highway mileage and less wind noise.  the flexible, stretchable platform underneath the new murano has been reinforced from front to rear, and fitted with several additional bumper beams and crossmembers, for the heavier duty cycles a crossover sport ute encounters, so it's now roughly 150 percent stiffer than the old truck. Standalone options range from heated seats and leather seating to bluetooth, a rear-view camera, touch-screen navigation, an intelligent key system, xm satellite radio with navtraffic, a bose 11-speaker sound system, and a 9. 3-gagibyte music storage hard drive.  safety features include dual-stage frontal air bags, seat-mounted side-impact air bags (for torso protection), roof-mounted curtain air bags (for head protection), active head restraints in the front row (for whiplash protection), antilock brakes (abs), traction control, and electronic stability control. The murano was among the first of a new wave of space-efficient crossover suvs that are highly styled. Sharing much of its design with the stylish nissan rogue launched in late 2007, the new murano takes crossover styling another step further.  the 2009 murano has a bolder grille and a more aggressive front end design than that of the compared to the successful original. Very complex aero headlamps hang off the front corners of the body and gracefully lead into the fenders.  bumper to bumper, this murano has much more sculpted sheetmetal than the original, with swoops and sweeps and dips from end to end. Nissan calls it curvaceous modern art. One feature that affects both the exterior and interior is a new dual-panel moonroof that lets huge amounts of light into the cabin, but looks from the outside like a single pane of glass covering two thirds of the roof area. interiornissan has redesigned the murano interior for 2009, starting over with a much more inviting, better organized, and much more modern and user-friendly package of instrumentation and controls, including a new center console and new graphics.  in terms of comfort, we found the new seats more comfortable and supportive than those in the previous version. Every model has a tilt/telescope steering column (manual or power) to accommodate more body types and leg lengths.  everything on the instrument panel is well marked, and easy to use. The instruments are large, graphically clean and clear, and bathed in red-orange lighting day or night. The multi-function steering wheel is beefier, with better function buttons. The multi-controller knob at the top center of the dash has been redesigned for ease of use. The base am/fm/cd sound system has been modernized, with a total of six speakers and the inclusion of an aux plug on lower models and full ipod integration on the le version, with full control and track information displayed on the central screen. The same deeply hooded screen is used for navigation, backup camera, telephone, hvac, and radio displays. Pushbutton ignition and an ipod interface are standard.  the interior and exterior dimensions are all within an inch of the previous-generation model, which means it's as roomy and comfortable in the front and second seats as any five-seater on the market, and holds about the same volume of cargo. Many of the midsize crossover suvs that compete with the murano, such as the toyota highlander, were designed to accommodate three rows of seats. The murano was designed for just two rows, so the second row in the murano tends to be roomier than the second row of seats on other vehicles in this class. Bottom line: the back seats of a murano are comfortable and very roomy for two adults.  for maximum cargo space, the back seats power up and flip down quickly and easily, and there are two different cargo storage systems available, depending on model. driving impressionwe test drove a nissan murano sl, the middle model. Torque is 248 foot-pounds at 4000 rpm. The cvt has fewer moving parts, lighter parts for lower mass and decreased operating friction, and software that makes it act more like a conventional transmission, shifting 30-percent quicker, which means the engine doesn't drone on at high rpm during full-throttle acceleration away from a stop. Nissan says it's also adaptive to each driver's style and habits. It's much quieter in terms of mechanical, wind and road noise. The engine is much more willing, and this cvt transmission shifts properly, kicks down quickly, and lets the engine operate just above idle at freeway speeds, which is another way that it saves on fuel costs for the owner in addition to the reduced internal friction.  the new murano's front and rear suspension is now made entirely of cast aluminum pieces, lighter and faster to reach to inputs, very well isolated from the cabin, and features a set of premium shock absorbers with built-in rebound springs to handle the big impacts. The tops speed-sensitive. Anti-lock Brakes✔ Heated Seats✔ AM/FM✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Bluetooth✔ Backup Camera✔ Alloy Wheels

2004 nissan titan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Is this america's best full-size pickup?. introductiona man and his truck. I smiled in understanding. Most certainly pickups inspire in their owners, male or female, an emotion rarely generated by other wheeled objects. That's the task nissan has set for itself with what it terms the first truly full-size pickup from a company other than ford, dodge, or general motors. Titan is significantly larger than the toyota tundra, which is not quite full-size.  nissan has done its research, benchmarking favored pickups and edging the bar higher for its titan. The titan boasts best in class headroom; best in class torque; best in class interior volume (for the crew cab); best 4x4 ground clearance; best 4x4 approach angle; largest in class 4x4 tires. Titan can tow up to 9,500 pounds, putting it at the top of the class alongside the new ford f-150.  the titan features a new 5. 6-liter v8 and five-speed automatic that deliver dazzling response. Its handling is equally responsive, making it among the most enjoyable of the full-size half-ton pickups. Brakes, suspension, drivetrain all feel refined. This is a serious pickup that pleases all the senses.  titan boasts clever innovations that improve on the traditional pickup bed, such as the factory-applied spray-in bedliner and a c-channel tie-down system. The rear doors on the king cab open nearly 180 degrees for quick access.  the titan was designed in california. It's built at nissan's new plant at canton, mississippi, and its new v8 is built at nissan's decherd, tennessee, production facility. lineupnissan titan is available in two body styles: king cab with a 6-foot, 7-inch bed or a crew cab with a larger cabin and conventional doors and a 5-foot, 6-inch bed.  all titans boast nissan's new 5. 6-liter v8 engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. All models are available in 2wd and 4wd versions.  three trim levels are available, xe, se, and le. The xe comes standard with a split front bench seat with a fold-down armrest storage bin and split pop-up rear seat; xe comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, but has manual door locks and wind-up windows. Se adds captain's chairs, a better grade of cloth, 18-inch wheels, power everything, and host of other features; se is expected to be the most popular trim level. Le comes with leather front seats. All models come with a high level of standard equipment including features such as a tire-pressure monitor, automatic headlamps, cruise control, and a cd stereo.  a navigation system is optional and comes bundled with a rear park-assist system. Also optional is a package that includes front-seat side-impact air bags and curtain air bags, always good choices in tall vehicles like suvs and trucks. The utility bed package includes a clever channel system in the bed for flexible tie-down configurations to fit a wide range of cargo; a lockable storage system in the outside of the bed; tailgate lighting; a power point at the rear; and that factory-applied spray-in bedliner. Nissan says its plan is to get the basics right and then build on that with a new level of style and innovation. We think the nissan titan has achieved those goals. walkaroundfor that all-important view in someone's rearview mirror the titan styling bellies over toward the dodge ram school of intimidation rather than ford or chevy. (the ford f-150, deemed almost too pretty in its present guise, has also shifted toward ram ruggedness for its new version.) the titan's blocky front-end view with its twin sloping chrome bars angling down across a bee-comb radiator says 'here's a big truck.' at that the look is simple and direct, short of braggadocio.  the rest of the truck fulfills that impression. Direct and shaped by its function. Big square-shaped fender flares give it a look of rugged sportiness. But the titan's rear door opens not just to the near 90 degrees expected; it swings farther yet, yawning all the way open, flat against the truck's body. Wide-open they call it and it is. It's surprising how often this feature becomes useful. At the grocery store, it makes it much easier to maneuver a cart closely into position for unloading. This clever door design adds greatly to the king cab's utility.  king cab models come with 6 1/2-foot beds. Crew cab models feature 5 1/2-foot beds, trading a foot of bed space for roomy back seats and more interior cargo room. With the tailgate lowered, the beds can accommodate 4x8-foot sheets of building material between the wheel housings. On 2wd titans it's about 34 inches, a big difference. Higher may be better in terms of machoism, but lower is better when loading heavy cargo. A 2wd chevy silverado appears to be the lowest in this regard.  the optional sprayed-in bedliner looks terrific. The anti-skid surface keeps cargo from sliding around, prevents scratches and rust, and reduces noise. Unlike plastic drop-in liners, it doesn't trap moisture. Covered by the truck's warranty, the coating is applied at a $2 million facility specifically built for this purpose at nissan's spanking-new truck factory in mississippi. The anti-skid surface can make it harder to slide a box out, but this seems to be greatly outweighed by the upsides.  the available c-channel tie-down system is designed to accommodate a variety of scenarios. It features c-section rails mounted in the bed, two on the floor, and one each on the side and forward walls of the bed. Removable cleats slide into the channels and can be positioned anywhere along its length thus permitting customized securing of cargo. Sliding cargo trays, a sliding tool box and other modular storage units are being designed by nissan for kayaks, bikes, and other needs. The bed channels feature protective caps that slide on to keep out debris when they're not being used. It appears to be a great system.  an innovative storage compartment integrated into left rear fender is convenient for storing at tow-hitch ball, work gloves, road flares, or a first aid kit. Measuring 11x15 inches, this small bedside compartment is double sealed to be weather and dust proo. interiorthe titan interior manages to feel spacious and snug at the same time. The leather upholstery in the le models is sporty, attractive and quite pleasing; the rear seats in the le are covered in matching vinyl that most people will assume is leather.  the bucket seats are firm and comfortable. The seat bottoms are relatively flat, making it easy to slide in and out, yet they offer good support and feel like they'd be comfortable on crosscountry trips. We find them more comfortable than the cushy seats in the gm trucks or those we've seen in the new ford f-150 which could use more side support. The driver's seat and passenger's seat are power adjustable. Memory and seat heaters are available.  the king cab has 60/40 flip-up rear seats and the nearly flat floor beneath makes loading and toting a wide mix of people and things a breeze. Bottle holders are provided in the rear doors to keep back-seat riders contented. Flip up the rear seat bottoms and the king cab can carry a 160-pound dog in comfort. Hooks provided on the seat bottoms useful for hanging grocery bags, tote bags, or gear bags so their contents don't end up scattered around the floor. The seat backs also fold down, adding another cargo-carrying option. Bucket Seats✔ Cruise Control✔ Navigation System✔ Aluminum Wheels

2005 nissan titan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Bold, innovative, in some ways the best pickup. introductionthe nissan titan features a 5. 6-liter v8 and five-speed automatic transmission that deliver dazzling performance. Its handling is equally responsive, making it among the most enjoyable of the full-size half-ton pickups. Brakes, suspension, drivetrain all feel refined. Titan is the first truly full-size pickup in nearly 25 years from anyone other than the big three, and the first ever from a company whose world headquarters are located outside of north america. (titan is significantly larger than the toyota tundra, which is not quite full-size.)  nissan did its homework, benchmarking favored pickups and edging the bar higher. As a result, titan boasts best in class headroom, best in class torque, best in class interior volume for the crew cab, best 4x4 ground clearance, best 4x4 approach angle, largest in class 4x4 tires. Titan can tow up to 9,500 pounds, putting at the top of the class alongside the latest ford f-150.  clever innovations improve on the traditional pickup. Among them: a factory-applied spray-in bedliner, a c-channel tie-down system for securing cargo and accessories, a stash box integrated into the driver's-side rear fender for storing a tow hitch or other small items. And the rear doors on the king cab open nearly 180 degrees for quick access.  for 2005, nissan has added a dampened tailgate assist, to reduce effort when opening and closing the tailgate. Active front head restraints are now standard on all models, and the crew cab now comes with a power retractable rear window, lending an open-air feeling to the interior. The window features privacy glass and an electric defroster. The titan was designed in california. All models are available in 2wd and 4wd. All titans come with a high level of standard equipment including a tire-pressure monitor, cruise control, tilt steering and a cd stereo.  the xe 2wd king cab 22,650) comes standard with a split front bench seat that has a fold-down armrest storage bin, and split pop-up rear seat. Xe also comes with 17-inch steel wheels, but has manual door locks and wind-up windows.  se 24,800) adds captain's chairs with a better grade of cloth, 18-inch aluminum wheels, power everything, and host of other features. A popular package 1,250) for the se adds many of the le's luxury features, but not its leather upholstery. The same package is available with the rockford-fosgate stereo 1,750).  le 29,250) gets leather seats in front, rockford-fosgate audio, fog lights, power adjustable pedals, tubular running boards and all the trick bed features described above. A dvd-based navigation system 2,000) is optional on le only.  choosing a crew cab model adds $2,500-$2,850 to the prices above. All king cab models are offered with flexible-fuel engines (ffv) for no additional cost. Front bench seats are available as a credit option on se and le.  optional is a package that includes front-seat side-impact air bags and curtain air bags 850), always good choices in tall vehicles like suvs and trucks. Curtain airbags are designed to provide head protection in a side impact or rollover event; side-impact airbags are designed to protect the torso in a side impact. These are important body parts, necessary for happy human function, so we recommend these features. On some models, the airbag package can be bundled with vdc electronic stability control 1,200), which helps the driver maintain control by reducing or elminating skidding in corners. The less ambitious trac package 300) adds the locking differential to a 2wd xe or se.  all models can be equipped with xm satellite radio 400). Nissan says its plan is to get the basics right and then build on that with a new level of style and innovation.  safety features include optional front-seat side-impact air bags and curtain air bags. The titan is the first full-size pickup to offer curtain air bags, which can improve protection against head injuries in a side-impact or rollover accident. Standard safety features on the 2005 titan include dual-stage front air bags with seat belt sensors and a front-passenger occupant classification senso. walkaroundtitan presents an intimidating sight in rearview mirrors, an aspect that's true of all of the current full-size pickups. Titan's blocky head-on view, with its twin sloping chrome bars angling down across a bee-comb radiator says, 'here comes a big truck.' at that, the look is simple and direct, short of braggadocio.  the rest of the nissan titan fulfills that impression: direct and shaped by function, a true truck. Big square-shaped fender flares give it a look of rugged sportiness. Lots of chrome up front adds to the boldness.  the king cab's unique door design is a real light-bulb innovation. But the titan's rear door opens not just to the near 90 degrees that's expected; it swings farther yet, yawning 168 degrees, which is nearly flat against the truck's body. Wide-open nissan calls it, and it is. It's surprising how often this feature becomes useful. At the grocery store, it makes it much easier to maneuver a cart closely into position for unloading. In daily use, we found this clever door design added more utility than we originally expected. Crew cabs have 5 1/2-foot beds, trading a foot of bed space for roomy rear seats and more interior cargo room.  with their tailgates lowered, both bed sizes can accommodate 4x8-foot sheets of building material between their wheel housings. On 2wd titans the load height is about 34 inches, a big difference when loading heavy cargo. Higher may be better for displaying machismo, but lower is better when there's work to be done.  nissan's sprayed-in bedliner looks terrific. The anti-skid surface keeps cargo from sliding around, prevents scratches and rust, and reduces noise. Unlike plastic drop-in liners, it doesn't trap moisture underneath, reducing the chance of rust. Covered by the truck's warranty, the coating is applied at a $2 million facility specifically built for this purpose at nissan's spanking-new truck factory in mississippi. 2007 nissan altima review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The nissan altima has been totally redesigned for 2007. It looks more like the maxima now. It's a couple of inches shorter on the outside, but has more room on the inside, including a spacious trunk. Fold-down rear seats allow the trunk to expand into the cabin for carrying big long things.  the object of the redesign was to bring the feel and power of a luxury car to this everyman's midsize sedan, and nissan has succeeded, at least with the altima model that has the v6 engine and all the options, including plush leather. It makes 270 horsepower, more than what's available in other midsize cars (excluding turbocharged or expensive sports sedans), along with 258 pound-feet of torque. The price for that power: the v6 requires premium fuel and gets 22/28 mpg.  another thing that makes the altima stand out is its new optional cvt, or continuously variable transmission. It's the only automatic transmission available in this car, and it's a winner with its manual mode, which allows six speeds or ranges. A cvt improves gas mileage because there's less internal friction.  the handling is true, and the suspension is quite firm without ever being harsh. It inspires confidence. It's a match for rough pavement and is steady and predictable in extreme situations. The altima also comes loaded with safety features.  an intelligent key comes standard in the altima. This might be convenient for some, but it leads to new problems, having to do with the memory of the human brain and confusion of the car's electronic brain. lineupthe 2007 nissan altima is initially available as five models: the 2. 5, 2. 5s, 2. 5sl, 3. 5se and 3. 5sl. Air conditioning does not come standard.  the 2. 5s adds air conditioning, a six-speaker sound system, remote keyless entry, power sideview mirrors, and speed-sensitive intermittent wipers, among other smaller things.  the 2. 5sl uses the continuously variable transmission, and adds leather interior with heated front seats and power driver's seat, moonroof, alloy wheels, dual-zone temp controls and rear air conditioning vents, among other smaller things.  the 3. 5 se uses the powerful v6 engine with the six-speed manual gearbox and cloth interior. It adds abs, traction control, and 17-inch alloy wheels, plus heated sideview mirrors and other features.  the 3. 5sl has most of the things listed above, but goes back down to 16-inch alloy wheels. It adds high-intensity xenon headlights, foglamps, bluetooth hands-free phone system, and nine-speaker bose cd/mp3 sound system.  a technology package includes the navigation system, a rearview monitor and satellite radio. On the higher priced models, anti-lock brakes are standard and electronic stability control is optional. Abs includes electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. Electronic stability control, which nissan calls vdc (vehicle dynamic control) is optional on 3. 5 models. walkaroundthe new 2007 nissan altima looks quite stylish, especially for a mid-size car. The body has gotten a makeover, and features a number of pleasing changes. Like some other new cars, in particular lexus, the fender flares are edgy and extend farther than before, allowing the body itself to be narrower and offer less frontal area. The gap between the tires and flares has been tightened. Overall aerodynamics are improved from 0. 33 to 0. 31, thanks to many things as always, not least the more steeply sloped windshield.  the wheelbase has been shortened by nearly an inch, and the overall length cut by 2. 5 inches, with shorter overhangs. The cowl was moved forward and rear glass rearward, which allowed for no overall decrease in cabin space. The beltline is low so there's more side glass, which adds to the roomy feeling.  the headlamps and taillamps appear almost exotic, certainly elaborate. As for the taillamps, nissan says they cost nearly as much as the headlamps (so don't back into anything!), and they definitely do look expensive. They're covered with clear plastic like the headlamps, and contain a silver ray-gun looking cylinder with the red lamp, plus a round white beam for the backup light and a big orange piece for the parking lamp and turn signal. interiorin redesigning the altima, nissan engineers were assigned to create more cabin space, and given one inch less to work with, on account of the reduction in wheelbase. They met their goal by stretching the distance between a-pillar and c-pillar, thus shortening the cowl and deck. There are 1. 7 inches less legroom in front, but 3. 1 inches more in the rear, and that's a lot; however, 0. 8 inches of rear headroom has been lost. Trunk space has grown from 15. 6 cubic feet to 17. 9.  the seats are relatively large. They feel firm and longer and higher than in last year's models. We've been in many luxury cars that didn't feel this classy inside. More soft materials are used, for touches like padded armrests, and the overall level of refinement is higher than with the former altima. It's the common and practical tripod design, with speedo in center, tachometer on left and gas and temp on right. The lettering is sharp, white on black, with red needles.  the center stack is neatly designed, with three dual-zone hvac vents at top over the sound system and good knobs, leading down to usable storage slots and the transmission lever, in this case for the cvt. The space for the big glovebox was created by downsizing the air conditioning unit, but nissan says there's no compromise in ac effectiveness; in fact, nissan says the ac is best in class, thanks to improved airflow and a quieter fan.  the intelligent key is standard on all altima models, but we don't think it's so smart. It may be true that women don't like to bother with putting a key in an ignition, as the manufacturers say, and like to keep their keys in their purse at all times; but it's also true that since intelligent keys have been invented, there has been a rash of dead batteries. It's left on the accessories mode, and drains the juice. Not even with a passenger totally devoted to the challenge, while we were stuck in traffic.
